Xosé L. Filgueira Valverde. Galician Literature Day 2015

Born in Pontevedra on October 28, 1906, Xosé Filgueira Fernando Valverde was a vast and solid intellectual formation, professor and researcher, and one of the last great polygraphs that Galicia has.

 Tireless worker, was manager and developer of many of the cultural projects of his time. The most prominent is the Museum of Pontevedra, of which he was director from 1940 to 1986. It should be emphasized because of its importance, the acquisition of the legacy of Castelao by the Museum, thanks to the personal initiative of Filgueira Valverde, who avoided so its more than likely spread by the authorities of the dictatorship that seized goods Castelao in Pontevedra. In 1976 he participates in the creation of the Galician People Museum, of which he was patron until his death. Member of the Royal Academy of Galicia since 1941, of the Royal Academy of History from 1980, President of the Galician Culture Council in 1990. He died in Pontevedra on September 13, 1996.
